night at the zoo

Last night was the annual "Keeper-intern" picnic. This year it was held after work in the primiate building. We sat at round tables and had a catered dinner while the gorillas and orangs watched us. Talk about a unique dining experience. There was a trivia game designed to get the interns to ask us questions. They were all very interested in how we had each managed to land the coveted payed positions that we're in. It made me reflect on when I was in their position and so frusterated about the constant rejection application after application and interview after interview. Oh and of course the lack of money. I'm so grateful for my job. I went through a lot to get to where I'm at. We all have. I hope it encouraged them a bit to hear our stories. Next week is National Zookeeper week- I expect presents ;)
