We made it!
The race is over, and we made it to the end without taking the "sag wagon"! It was actually a really fun ride, and not as horrible as I was anticipating. The weather was PERFECT. According to my little bike odometer/speedometer, we averaged 12.1 mph and it took us a total of 6 hours 15 minutes and 7 seconds (that's total biking time without the rest stops included). Last year we averaged 12.5 mph and completed in 6 hours 15 minutes and 48 seconds. Not quite sure how we rode slightly slower this year but still finished faster this year, but we did really well considering we didn't train much! Some highlights: A little old lady who rode the race (or at least part of it) in a skirt and heels, hitting a pothole in the 2nd mile and messing my chain all up so that we had to wait on the side of the road for a good half hour to get it fixed, and a team that named itself "Team Schmeam". I want to be on team schmeam next year. They also had these little signs posted along the road to keep us amused- my favorite was the one posted at mile marker 25 that said "Free T-shirt in 50 miles!". I've posted 2 pictures- the first is us in the car at the butt-crack of dawn before it started, and the other is after we finished. I took some of the actual race, but they are on my phone so I need to figure out how to get them
off and transferred.
