Snow Report
So. The big snow storm last week. Here's a recap of how it went down...
The original forecast was predicting about 8 to 12 inches of snow, beginning at 3am that morning. As the day progressed, so did the number of inches they were predicting. I was at work and at noon, they told everyone they could go home early, but 4 of us needed to stay overnight. I volunteered, since I would get paid time and a half from 4:30-midnight, and then double-time from midnight-8am. I couldn’t turn down that kind of money! So I spent the better part of the evening out shoveling the snow, creating paths for the animals. We ended up getting a whopping 24 inches! I finally got back to the building and took some awesome pictures of myself:
My chore list:
I got very little sleep that night. I attempted to make myself a “bed” on our lunch table using everyone’s parkas. It was not comfortable. Plus there were the mice to worry about. And every time I would start to drift off, my walkie would go off.
It was a day later that I realized I had an air mattress at home I could have brought in-grr! Sunday I was up bright and early to get back at it. Everything I had shoveled out the night before had filled back in. Only one of the penguins was brave enough to come out of the water- the snow was deeper than they are tall! Two people from my team called out, leaving all the work of the day to be done by just me and Catherine. Normally we would have 5 people, so having just two of us on such a labor-intensive day was really bad. Several people from some of the other departments were really nice and offered us help, but there was only so much they could do without knowing our animals. My back ached from all of the shoveling the day before, I was running on almost no sleep, and there was no time to eat. It was the craziest day of work I have ever had! I came home Sunday night completely wiped out.
The following morning I woke up and came into my den to check my email before work. And what do I hear? Drip, drip, drip. I looked over to my wall and to my horror saw this:
There was a leak in the roof and the water was coming in under the crown molding and ran all the way down to the floor! The paint has pools of water collecting behind it and is pulling away from the wall. My pretty canvas art piece that my mom bought me got destroyed too
I am really mad because this same thing happened in the exact same spot about a year and a half ago, so obviously they did not do a very good job of “fixing” the roof. Luckily the association is in charge of the repairs and damage, but it is still such a hassle. I’m going to have to repaint the wall again, and I don’t think I’ll be able to replace the art. I got really annoyed speaking to the manager in the condo office because they weren’t acting like this was an urgent matter at all. She was being so rude to me!
